Yusra’s story of Invention
One cold winter evening, my family and I were about to go for a drive. We all got into the car, excited to set off… but then we had to wait for the windows to defrost. And let’s be honest—when adults say, “It’ll only be two minutes,” children know that usually means two hours!
Just when we thought we were ready to go, another problem appeared: the inside of the windows became covered in condensation (when water vapour in the air turns into tiny droplets of liquid on a cold surface).
At first, I thought, “Why don’t cars have windscreen wipers on the inside?” But then I realised that would only leave water inside the car, causing damp and mould.
That’s when I realised I had discovered a real problem—and every big problem has the potential for a great solution.
When my home education group took part in the Primary Engineer – “If You Were an Engineer, What Would You Do?” competition, I grabbed the opportunity. I designed Con-Bot, a robot that removes condensation safely and efficiently.
Although my idea started with a car journey, I realised condensation affects many places, including homes, schools, offices, and other buildings. Con-Bot could help wherever condensation becomes a problem, making everyday life a little easier for everyone.
